CEO
Maro Machizawa, PhD (Neurology)
Machizawa is the first Japanese scholar to earn a Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience from the Institute of Neurology at University College London (UCL), UK. He has conducted research at leading neuroscience institutes in both the United States (University of Oregon, University of Virginia, Brown University) and Japan (RIKEN, Hiroshima University), accumulating over 20 years of experience studying the broad functions of the mind and brain.
Fascinated by how the brain gives rise to consciousness and emotion, he made a groundbreaking discovery as a master’s student — identifying the world’s first EEG indicator of attention and memory (Event-Related Potential: ERP). This work was published in Nature and has since become one of the most frequently cited EEG markers in recent years. Focusing on memory and learning, he continues to develop cutting-edge applied neuroscience technologies and promotes their social implementation through industry–academia collaboration. Since 2020, he has served as a specially appointed Associate Professor at Hiroshima University, participating in national projects such as the Cabinet Office’s Moonshot Program alongside numerous academic experts.
